What we've been up to since our last post:
- We moved into our house!
- A humpback whale washed up on the beach when we were in the states, the meat fed hundreds for days, we "braaied" some ourselves and now we can say we've eaten whale! A bouncy meaty thing!
- We finally got internet at the house!
- Whale watching from our back porch
- Alan's been fishing multiple times and caught enough wahoo to feed us, our friends, and our "guardas"
- The garden is booming with zucchini and squash and spinach!!! We've used up all the cilantro but the jalapenos are growing now. Basil grows here like wildflowers do in Texas but we've re-planted mint...still waiting on that to grow.
- Bekki got her "vet-mobile"...a green Rav4
- Our sea shipment came and our guardas took all the wooden crates to improve their houses
- Bekki and the other vet in town have combined inventory and began working out of our house.
- We've hired an "empregada" and have not had to wash dishes or clean the floors since!!! (how did we EVER survive before?!)
- Eaten at the Indian restaurant next door about 100 times!
- Went to Taratibu (Elephant camp) and camped in the mountains.
- We built a swing on one of the inselbergs at Taratibu
- We've eaten wild marula fruit
- We've spent a LOT of time in the kitchen making things from scratch: pancakes, zucchini bread, cornbread, ice cream, cakes, tortillas, pizzas, and everything possible you can make with pumpkin!
- We had a Tex-Mex "festa": Eland and chicken fajitas, velveeta-rotel queso (that everyone RAVED about! haha), homemade tortillas, salsa, chili con carne, and margaritas!
- Hospitalized 6 dogs for a weekend at the clinic (our house)
- Still waiting on our generator and living room furniture and Sadie to arrive
- Introduced our friends to proper filtered coffee and they love it
- Made new additions to our family...
Just kidding. These are puppies that are looking for homes
- Taken walks on the beach in front of our house
- Enjoyed being in a place with friendly locals
What amazing adventures! You got me with the pups! I was like OMG FOUR puppies! ;) You guys look amazing and the photos are really beautiful. I can't wait to hear about Bekki's vet mobile and all her patients. Lots of love and hugs and Mexican fiestas! Thanks for the awesome update.
