Thursday May 27
Alan got a phone call from JC, one of the captains of their ships just after lunch. When JC told him they'd caught a Yellowfin Tuna from the boat the day before, Alan jokingly told him they weren't supposed to fish from the boat, and that he'd have to "confiscate" it! The tuna had been frozen overnight, so Alan dropped me off from lunch and placed the tuna in our bathtub to thaw...
We got home really late Thursday night and Alan still had to fillet the (still frozen) tuna. So there we were...in our back yard, at the outdoor shower, whispering, trying not to wake our neighbors, washing and filleting the fish. Next thing you know, Willem sticks his head over the fence and yells, "How goes it?"...he walks right over and starts inspecting Alan's work then runs in to tell Lize that we're outside filleting a huge tuna.
Willem (pronounced "Villem") and Lize are fish farmers from South Africa. Other than that they are JUST like us. Its crazy-awesome!
They got excited and brought their knives over and, after giving Alan a hard time about how he was filleting the tuna, Willem "showed us how it was done" by filleting the other side, cussing under his breath the whole time that the tuna was still quite frozen! --As it turns out Alan didn't do that shabby of a job after all!
None of us had eaten dinner yet, so Willem yelled for the "GUARDA!", who, came, picked up the remains of the fish and cleaned everything up...while we went next door and had the most amazing pan-seared tuna!
By far, one of the most fun midnight snacks we've ever had!
Thanks for visiting our blog! We are so blessed to be in Pemba and pray God uses us here and keeps us here for a long time! We're hoping this will be one of the many ways we can keep in touch with you!
If you've ever heard Phil Vassar's "Just Another Day In Paradise" song, that sums our life up here! Its Mozambique--its a third world country; nothing goes as planned, the boxed milk sours, electrical appliances never work... But it is Paradise and we love it!
"Its just another day in paradise. Well, there's no place that I'd rather be. Well, its two hearts and one dream, I wouldn't trade it for anything. And I ask the Lord everynight, for just another day in paradise!" (Phil Vassar)
